Quakers

Movement founded in the East Midlands by George Fox around 1647. It spread to the
north of England in the early 1650s and to the south by 1654.
Between 1655 & 1662 about 60 Quaker missionaries began converting settlers
in America, esp in New England
(Rhode Island), New Amsterdam, Long Island, Maryland & Virginia.
In 1682 William penn's constitution for Pennsylvania was adopted.
There is no church as such but a gathering of friends at a meeting house where the workship
is largely silent. Social reform and religious tolerance are fundamental,
plus the pursuit of non-violent means
